Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels initiative changes lives daily and this Mandela Day was Hospices’ turn.
Jacqui Kaye, representing the 17 Hospice organisations within Gauteng, joined Martin Bester and his team in studio to discuss palliative care, Hospice and how listeners could help.
Jacaranda FM listeners, corporates and supporters of Good Morning Angels came together and donated a total of R 1 071 500 to our cause and the Good Morning Angels team rounded the figure to R104m in honour of the 104 years old Madiba would have been this year.
Hospice East Rand recently received our R50 000 share of the donation. To say thank you to everyone involved, from those who initiated the fundraiser to those who graciously supported it just does not seem adequate. We are blown away by our Gauteng community’s generosity especially when so many of us are experiencing tough times currently.
Our sincere thanks goes out to everyone for opening their hearts. We are extremely grateful for your support!
As Tersia Burger, Chairperson of the Gauteng Hospice & Palliative Care Association (GHPCA) commented “palliative care is often undervalued and misunderstood. Most people think Hospice is a death sentence and it is not.”
Palliative care focuses on relieving pain and suffering of those diagnosed with life-limiting illness. We also provide support for both patients and family member. Hospice does not intend to hasten or postpone death but we are there to care for patients and family members on their journey.
