Benoni based Biokineticist, Kirsty Roux is taking on the gruelling George Mountain Ultra Trail ‘MUT’ by UTMB through the Outeniqua Mountains on May 27, 2023. This adventure is an epic 100km trail run with 4855m elevation gain and promises to be breath-taking in every sense of the word.
Being Kirsty’s first 100km trail race, she wants to use this experience as a platform to do something meaningful. “To be able to run is a gift and a great privilege and I want to use this opportunity to celebrate this wonderful gift and hopefully make a difference,” says Kirsty.
She has selected to support Hospice East Rand and her wish is to generate awareness around their palliative care service for those who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and funds raised in her name will be used to provide care for those patients who are not in a position to afford care.
“It has been a tough year all round so far, not least for the NPO sector. Every penny is turned over six times in their quest to provide excellent home-based palliative care for their patients and their families,” says Kirsty. “Hospice East Rand came to the rescue providing love, support and expert care to both my Gran’s in their fights against cancer and we are grateful for their selfless service to our family. I know so many of you have been touched by the Hospice angels assisting your loved ones in their time of need too.”
“I am running in honour of those who are ill, in honour of those who would love to run but can’t. I am running in recognition and thanks to the angels that work at Hospice East Rand who dedicate their lives to service and serving,” Kirsty shared.
